SPRING ACTION DAY CELEBRATES START OF SHOW SEASON WITH FANTASTIC TURNOUT

Dubbed the ‘official kick-start to the performance car show season’, Castle Combe Circuit’s Spring Action Day – held on 7 April – marked the beginning of a string of exciting events scheduled over 2018 at the Wiltshire venue.

Despite mixed weather reports beforehand, the day proved to be largely dry and mild, and didn't dampen the spirits of those descending onto the race track’s scenic grounds to witness a great day dedicated to all things performance cars.

With an impressive array of clubs and some awesome club cars, the Club Display Areas were not to be missed and provided a fantastic array of vehicles for show-goers to admire.

On the circuit itself, public track time sessions were laced with white-knuckle professional drifting demonstrations to keep the crowd’s pulse racing from start to finish. There was also the MCR Specialist Cars and Infinity Exhausts parade – a rolling display of the Top 25 cars of the day that were hand-picked by the event sponsors – helping to illustrate just what a diverse mix of machines were in attendance.

The Top 25 Show and Shine stand this year hosted a seriously formidable array of gleaming metal, making the judges’ task of picking the Top 3 finalists a seriously difficult affair indeed. Eventually, though, the winners were announced: Bryan Marland’s Audi Coupé in third, Marios Christofi’s recently-finished Honda Accord Euro R in second, and Mark Hudd’s Cosworth-powered Escort Van claiming the top spot. All finalists received goody bags kindly donated by acclaimed cleaning gurus, Dodo Juice.

Other awards included Car of the Show – a coveted prize that was this year claimed by Dave Wilson and his immaculate Mk1 Ford Escort which was never too far away from a group of envious looking bystanders. 2018’s event saw the club awards broken down into three categories for the first time, with Ford Sport South West taking home the ‘Best Small Club’ trophy, Track Obsession receiving the ‘Best Big Club’ award, and Race Club securing the ‘Overall Best Club’ prize.

Elsewhere, a bustling Trade Village saw some of the country’s most respected names in the industry on-hand to offer parts and friendly advice.

An extremely exciting start to what promises to be another year of fantastic action-packed events at Castle Combe, head over to the circuit’s website now to see what else is coming up.
